Approved by allthe world's nations except Somalia and the United States, the 54articles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child inChild Friendly Language is presented in full on pages 32 and 33 of"This Child, Every Child." The purpose of "This Child,Every Child" is to educate children about the world specifically asit affects them and children in every part of the globe. Some of therights and the underlying issues presented are uncomfortable to imagineand accept, but there is no denying the importance of studying andraising awareness of the global status of children's rights. Forexample, Article 32 states "You have the right to protection fromwork that harms you, and is bad for your health and education. If youwork, you have the right to be safe and paid fairly (p. 24)." Theexample illustrated shows two boys, Nasir and Omar, ages 9 and 10, whowork in a rug factory in Pakistan. The work requires the boys to work6-7 days a week and sit in one position for a long time. Other examplesof child labor that is exploitative or prevents children from receivingeducation are also shown. Articles that relate to children and theirfamilies, children's health, children on the move, children treatedunequally due to gender, and more are illustrated and presented, withspecific examples form around the globe. "This Child, EveryChild" closes with some important areas of suggested additionalstudy, plus some great "Take Action" tips with the underlyingmantra, "Change is possible."
