WAMSO competition winners announced.
WAMSO competition winners announced. Violinist Robin Scott won first prize in the 55th annual WAMSOYoung Artist Competition in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Scott, 24, is astudent of Donald Weilerstein and Kim Kashkashian of the New EnglandConservatory, Boston. Scott received $7,500 in WAMSO awards, aperformance with the Minnesota Orchestra, and the $1,000 Haine LouiseLagerstrom Memorial Violin Award. The second prize, a $4,000 WAMSO award, went to oboist JosephPeters. Peters, 24, is a master's candidate at the Yale School ofMusic, where he studies with Stephen Taylor. He won a recitalperformance in the Schubert Club the Courtroom Series in Saint Paul andhe also received the $1,000 Mathilda Heck Woodwind Award. The $2,000 third prize was awarded to Ansel Norris, trumpet.Norris, 18, is in his first year at Northwestern University where hestudies with Charles Geyer. He won a concerto performance with the SaintPaul Civic Symphony. Tubist David McLemore, 23, a master's candidate in tubaperformance at the University of Michigan, was awarded a fullscholarship to the Aspen Music Festival and School for summer, 2011.Pianist Rudin Lengo, 24, who has completed his master's degree atthe Manhattan School of Music, won a full tuition summer scholarship tothe Chautauqua Music Festival in New York, and the $500 Mary WinstonSmail Memorial Piano Award.
